I facilitated a zine-making workshop to explore the theme of food using collaging and storytelling methods at the beginning of my Masters programme at IDS. Given the diverse student body, I designed a workshop on a theme of food.
The result? Niharika Srivastava attended and ended up making friends with Wafa, whose zine was on food insecurity in Bangladesh. Reading Wafa's zine led Niharika to do her dissertation on this topic!
"Many people dissuaded me from picking this issue, saying there's no donor funding for it. But I felt it was important. If someone chooses to dedicate their zine on it, I want to at least learn more," says Niharika.
Ness Donaldson, CIWFM and the whole Facilities team at IDS, who were enthusiastic and helpful in organising the workshop and funneling its zine outputs to create a pop-up library in the building. Hopefully, this little collection of our zines might spark inspiration for future batches as well ⚡️
➡️ My friends Sarah Philpott, Billie Turner, Syungyun Lee, Aranya Sawhney Malik, and everyone who attended made this such a special beginning to the year!
