One sunny March morning, I facilitated a zine-workshop with six Punekars on their experience of cycling in the city, as part of a collaboration with Parisar, an NGO working towards sustainable development. As someone who cycled to high-school and later, office, in the neighboring city of Mumbai, holding this reflective space for her felt like a full circle moment.

During this two-hour workshop, participants mapped their collective journeys with cycling by drawing on one giant behaviour-over-time graph to find a striking similarity - everyone had stopped cycling as they grew older. They discussed why and what they’d want from cycling in Pune, through the lens of utopias. The outcome was a collaborative zine, put together by Riya. In it, you’ll find their response to: what is the ideal cycle and Pune to cycle in?

Each chapter follows a participant’s individual response and obviously, wouldn’t be possible without each creator: Rutuja Kulkarni, Tushar Mulchandani, Sachin Khedkar, Sharmila Deo, Chirrayu Rasane and Madhushree K.
